Drop offs
The drive up to the drop-off point at the United States Air Force Academy is often one of the most emotional parts of the journey. Parents and Appointees share those final minutes together in the car—sometimes filled with conversation, sometimes with quiet reflection—as the reality of the day begins to sink in. Pride, excitement, nervousness, and a sense of loss all seem to ride along together. When the car finally stops and it’s time for a quick hug, a few last words, and a wave goodbye, families watch their sons and daughters step forward into a new chapter of service and leadership. It is a brief moment, but one that many parents remember forever: the instant they see their child take the first steps toward becoming a member of the Long Blue Line.
